Island Isolation

Often what I see each day,
Makes up for the lack of friends.
Seldom there’s time for loneliness,
My change of scenery never ends.

I remember when the tides close in
Two ferries and a bridge are near.
The perfect escape from the island
Is at the end of the float plane pier.

A gateway to adventure,
We waited on the lower stair;
There was never a better assent,
Disappearing into thin air.

This Morning Looked Like China

The sunrise was imprisoned today,
By a dragon’s breath, spit of fog…
A Cormorant awaiting the pardon,
Sat patiently on a floating log.

This war’s a perpetual battle,
Between the winter and the sea…
Every day the sun burns though,
Adds a notch to my soul’s victory.

Manicured Ugliness

She’s the one who dropped her sucker,
In the sandbox at preschool,
Teased all through elementary,
And in high school, deemed “Uncool”.

Was she a professional victim?
Cursed with a fatal flaw?
Beaten with an ugly stick?
Or a product of Murphy’s Law.

Her crush was already married,
Their dream, an obsolete scene…
Ignoring all the red flag warnings,
Her wedding ring finger turned green.

She stole from her elderly mother,
Her biography, all complete lies…
Others still deem her a loser,
And will, to the day she dies.
