Voyer of the Past

I log onto the Facebook site,
Safely snug in my bedroom…
Researching old acquaintances;
Their successes and their doom.

Some pose with yachts and Cadillac’s,
Grandchildren, kittens, or pugs.
Alumni post photos of old friends,
Lost to cancer, booze or drugs.

So many happy pictures,
Are staged and not quite true…
That thought reflects my fantasy;
So in love with all of you.

Nova

I cry, I breathe, I’m energy,
I feel empathy and compassion.
I bleed, gain weight, embarrass,
Those obsessed with the latest fashion.

I am nothing more than a grain of sand,
Recording my travels in verse…
Whether I am, or never remembered,
I am a star in the universe.

Hunker Down

Dark, no wind and tropical;
It’s the calm before the storm.
Now screams of fighting Ravens
And hurricanes are the norm.

This morning in the Winter chill,
I saw my foggy breath.
I shuffled through the fallen leaves,
Under trees naked and bereft.

The News airs dire warnings,
Neighbors contemplate what to do.
“Oh hell’’, I said, “Just fuck it”!
As I uncapped another brew.
