Tracks

My imagination ignites dreams
When I see railroad track.
The thought of finding better towns,
… Maybe not coming back.

Reading all the schedule boards
Hanging in the railroad station,
You’ve no choice between adventure,
Or a disastrous vacation.

A trip across America,
Offers new promises each day…
Every dream you hope to find,
And hurt, has no ETA.

One can flounder in self-pity,
Standing out in the pouring rain…
Or one can find a railroad track
And wait for another train.

High Wire

I graduated Catholic school,
With a profound sense of calm;
Never confessed to any sin
Or memorized a psalm.

If per chance there is a heaven,
I’m not sure I’d want to go.
It would feel so very lonely
Surrounded by no one that I know.

I’ve never been a follower,
Avoided every church or choir.
I'd rather reach the lofty heights,
Tightrope walking on a wire.
