I realized
riding the Coupeville ferry,
Many things
are different today…
You swipe a
credit card for passage;
Cars need a
reservation to sail away.
Average
riders are under thirty,
Baby
strollers replaced back packs…
Bomb sniffing
dogs pace the decks,
Looking for
any abandoned sacks.
Fewer folks
visit the outside deck,
To savor the
fresh sea air…
Riders preferred their cellphones,
Allowing them to journey unaware.
The jig saw
puzzles on the tables,
For the
riders to enjoy…
Are rife
with stolen pieces,
Mean people took to just annoy.
Today I saw
two dolphins,
A hundred
seagulls taking wing…
A Humpback
whale near Whidbey,
And the
other riders, not a thing.
