What Now? The Competition

What do we do now, dear…
I’m actually talking to myself.
Living one sided conversations,
One man’s alone time with himself.

When you are finished with the kids,
And grow weary traveling France…
Give me a call and return home,
I’m sure we’ll have that one last dance.

A mental old lady in Yakima,
In error, thinks we are friends…
While you change planes at JFK
She’s changing her Depends.

Dysfunctional Kindred Spirits

Once in my life, I had it all,
Until happiness jumped the track.
Decades, others, new memories,
Still, I never got joy back.

Were you ever an honest soul?
Did you survive on deceit and charm?
Know I’ve spied on you for many years,
You hurt and thrived on your self-harm.

How can finding a kindred spirit,
Make me appear to be a tool?
Is it possible we were destined,
To be each other’s mutual fool?

Maybe we will meet again,
If an afterlife truly exists,
Rejoined together, honestly,
But beware, I’m arriving pissed.

Addictions

Everyone has an addiction.
My dog craves Milk Bone biscuits…
A neighbor wants OxyContin;
I’m craving tea bags and some Triscuits.

These are just the small things,
To get us through our day…
It takes chocolate, wine and pizza,
To keep my pangs at bay.

Fast forward twenty years now,
All my longings are taboo…
I have quit every last addiction,
Except my thoughts of you.

‘’Hello my name’s Mike Starring,
I’ve been alone for twenty-five years’’…
After the standing ovation,
I walked home alone in tears.
