A Dreamer 'Till I Die

I never was a subscriber of fate,
Nor believed in a “Bigger plan”.
I gambled with life decisions;
Crediting hope, for who I am.

I worship trees in the forest,
Make wishes to stars in the sky…
Serendipity will always define me,
As a dreamer ‘till the day I die.

I rebel against the status quo,
Committing many a social gaff,
When others look at me in horror,
I walk away and laugh.

Rabies Among the Rich

I had a daily Carmel routine,
Taking our Corgi and Lab to the beach.
Bolting out of the pickup truck,
There was a tennis ball for each.

Philo, the Welsh Corgi,
Pushed his ball around damp sand…
Buck, the obnoxious Labrador
Performed antics twice as grand.

He would swim out past the breakers,
Invisible from the shore,
Then he’d drift back with the current,
To chase the ball once more.

Buck never stopped chomping his ball,
Salt foam circled around his face.
The sponge effect and the bubbles,
Made the wealthy shelter in place.

The End of Days

Everyone except my dad,
Considered the Earth a safe planet. …
Very few heeded the warnings,
Taking every day for granted.

Dad shook his fist at semi-trucks,
Emitting black diesel smoke…
If he only knew fifty years later,
People thought climate change a joke.

I’m happy now my father’s dead,
Saving the planet, his one desire…
He would simply be heartbroken
Knowing his children were on fire.

Two weeks later...

Fearless senators clutch their bibles,
And their wives in gold lame gowns...
Meanwhile the oceans evaporate,
As biblical floods destroy towns.
