Philosophies

I’ve decided to change my interests,

Currently studying philosophies…

Will my soul expire to heaven?

Is there a spirit in the trees?

The last decade I was a stoic,

I never acknowledged any pain…

Then I turned into an optimist,

Realizing with no pain, no gain.

I then read up on fatalism,

Learning there was never any god…

Only finding existentially,

Great things happened still, how odd?

Citing Niche and Nihilism,

They say go ahead and shoot the duck…

No reason it lives anyway,

Life’s screwed, so what the f—k?

Suddenly there’s human triumph,

Soccer, cancer, a saved specie…

I think that we as individuals

Need to be all we’re meant to be.

Pollyanna was an optimist,

Who discovered her own way…

When philosophers invade your life,

Just wait another day.

People drown in social standards,

Self-actualization won’t jump start…

Real heroes bypassed protocols

To follow first, their heart.

Dress for Sucess

No one made me wear a tie

To look like a success…

A glass of wine and attitude,

Is what made me pass the test.

I shied away from woolen suits

I favored cowboy boots…

Attracted to the movers,

Who did not forget their roots.

Lost fortunes to the businessmen,

Following the money path…

Made millions with the real folks,

Those friends who helped me laugh.

Gold prices, the stock market,

Real estate or latest trends…

Paled to the investment,

Of enjoying life with friends.

If I died tomorrow,

Broke, wearing not a stitch,

I hope the obits remember,

What memories made me rich.

I never placed all my money

In a bank or a leather pouch…

Instead, I spread my wealth around

By sharing the living room couch.

Starting on a farm with kids,

Geese, horses and some hogs,

Drawing the circle to a close,

Living with the perfect dogs.
