The Genisis of Hate

It only takes a single male,

Spurned by a beautiful lady,

To think of every woman,

As ignorant, helpless and shady.

It only takes some Democrats,

To hate every single Republican…

To trust no either leadership,

That some of the other voters can.

It may be a dead man named Jesus,

Whose followers hated Mohammed…

Because his teachings weren’t word for word,

To teach the same lessons the Psalms did.

Somewhere in your own back yard,

A dog instinctively hates a cat…

Historically there is no reason,

For this thousand’s year-old spat.

So many human victims hurt

Over so many invalid hunting seasons.

The victim’s tally grows each day,

Sides can’t report justifiable reasons.

Often on grammar school playgrounds,

Dodge balls hit school mates in the face.

Twenty years later they’re at Big_5

Armoring themselves with mace.

It only takes one white neighbor,

Irrationally taunting a black… and

Any young boy can start a war,

With a rock and a baseball bat.

 It only takes one country,

To attack another Nation’s shore,

Choosing to use nuclear weapons,

Just because they wanted more.

August 4, 1962 Honolulu, Hawaii

The first time I saw big black headlines,

People thought Pearl Harbor ended the world.

The incident occurred before I was born,

American flags in Hawaii, stayed unfurled.

In my mind, this naïve 12-year-old thought,

The harbor attack to me seemed old news.

I was too innocent to ever dream,

News could change my rose-colored views.

Every barefooted kid in Hawaii,

Knew when crossing a city street,

Walking on painted white crosswalk lines

Avoided the black asphalt’s heat.

The moment I crossed Kalakaua,

 At the International Market Place…

I saw my second, Big Black Headline.

I froze, tears streamed down my face.

Before that day I was fearless,

Until I processed what I’d read…

I thought my heroes and I were immortal, ,

Until I read Marilyn Monroe was dead
