Defenestration Orchestration

People in town were discovering,

Young men’s bodies upon the ground.

One by one the most handsome men

Were hurriedly leaving town.

A dainty young lass was arrested,

For killing her many boyfriends.

Each cause of death was a mystery,

How each ex-lover’s life ends.

The police asked the woman her method,

Then required a demonstration.

She opened the window, sharing the view,

The cop’s cause of death, “defenestration"!

Taking Control of my Feet

I remember when days were difficult,

My feet followed an unsteady beat.

Often times when life was the worse,

I would stumble on my own feet.

The best advice I was ever given,

From the smartest woman I ever knew,

Was never "Forget you’ve only two feet,

March to the beat, One two, one two”.

She warned me if my fortunes,

Should suddenly reverse or flip,

To never forget at any time,

I used to know how to skip.

The End of a Friendship

Way back in the early 60’s,

My best friend and I rode our bikes,

To our local neighborhood market

With pop bottle money to buy kites.

We stretched the unrolled paper

Out on the numbered sticks,

I just hoped my kite would soar,

My friend wanted his to do big tricks.

Our kites both soared to great heights

Until his kite string ensnared mine…

It cut my kite loose and crashed it,

I felt my friend had crossed the line.

The incident ended our friendship,

Immediately there and then.

Anger controlled our emotions,

We never spoke to each other again.

Sixty years later I have regrets,

Maybe it’s just the glass of wine…

But I still think of the entangled kite strings

And wish our lives were still entwined.
