The Weight of a Man/Sharing the Moon

How does one measure the weight of a man?
Should we assess the brain, brawn or the muscles?
Is he judged by business success or fight wins?
Some are judged by their genius hustles.

Some men are illuminated,
And worshipped like the sun…
But the largest men share the universe,
Often, with the smallest one.

Dogs

I moved to a Washington Island, 26 years ago
Two decades and a half, I shared my home...
Buck, Cecil, Rusty, Otis, Roscoe and Conrad,
Reminded me, I spent not one day alone.

The first four passed at twelve years old,
The last two trailer-ed up the coast…
Then passed back down to Whidbey again,
To the old house we loved the most.

Now my future is “Iffy”,
Conrad is only 8 years old…
My goal’s living his four more years,
My hope’s now publicly told.

City Sidewalks

Crossing the streets in the city,
The traffic moves liked ebbing tides.
People flow out like vomit,
From subways and taxi rides.

Sirens wailing, engines revving,
Tires skidding, and the honking horn…
Human masses fill the crosswalks,
While more babies are still being born.

Low wages, opiates and higher rents,
Afford many with nowhere to live…
At this very worst time in history,
The rich are refusing to give.

I feel like I am a witness,
Watching life on this planet die…
My days are filled with sadness,
But in my dreams, I fly.
