Whidbey Island Marshmallows

Some Whidbey Island growers,

Specialize in farming the fluff…

Roasted by campers worldwide,

Used in Peeps and sugary stuff.

Hot chocolate lovers in every office

Love their cocoa with marshmallows…

We take their addictions seriously,

As we harvest nature’s pillows.

Gratuitious Sax and Violence

Tricia loved the saxophone;

The alto vibes and the highs…

Caressing the wound up gramophone,

She felt the music in her thighs.

Tricia, the evil vixen, danced

In taverns under midnight skies…

Barkeeps knew her all too well:

Her every conquest dies.

Found in seedy hotel rooms,

Bound in handcuffs and neck ties…

Melted into  lumpy mattresses;

Consumed by maggots and houseflies.

The Soul of a Man

E.B. White

How does one measure greatness,
Give tribute or worship a man…
Grant an author hero status
Based, on the virtues of their life span?

Anoint, as he’s given to children,
Through words both written and said…
With compassion and redemption,
A tale, like “Charlotte’s Web”.

All living things are “Wilbur’s”
Fighting daily to stay alive…
We depend on friends like Charlotte
As allies that we may survive.

Through brilliant webs and letters,
He assured the world’s flock…
Humanity wasn’t really lost,
“Hang on to hope, and wind the clock”.

Gas Light Night

An appliance man will tell you,
“Strive for the perfect blue flame.
Just the right mixture of fuel and air;
It’s the hottest fire you’ll tame.”

We circled the fire on the beach.
I’ll never forget your names.
Gallons of wine and seaweed smoke;
We were then, the perfect flames.

Slowly all the embers died,
Victimized by time and rain…
To be spread in another circle
As we lit the blue fires again.

Smaller Steps

I still live in the old house

With the very high ceilings.

I remembered today,

How we ascended the steep stairs

Like we met all challenges then…

Two steps at a time,

While never looking back.

I tripped on the second stair tonight,

Attempting to revisit my youth.

I was reminded today,

I'm alone now;  prone to descending.

I found my way upstairs slowly;

One step at a time,

While never looking forward.
