October 12th, 2017

Tonight, the door blew open;
Winter entered the room…
Pushing Summer out the back door,
The good weather, gone too soon.

The electric blanket is turned on,
I’m holed up in an upstairs room…
The windows all are shuttered,
Still I can’t avoid the gloom.

Last week the water in the cove,
Mirrored a reflection of the moon …
This week the days grew darker,
And the seasons changed their tune.

Seasonal Effects

The full moon tonight on the water,
Throws light in the entry hall…
The upstairs glitters like diamonds;
A discotheque with a mirrored ball.

My Boxer sits at the window,
Taking in this amazing glory…
I celebrate the dancing aura,
Awaiting next month’s different story.

Winters use a different brush,
The moons fall as nights expire…
The sun rises over black water,
Painting my house and cove, on fire.

My Best Friend Peter

Peter was my first best friend,
The most dignified Teddy Bear…
He was born with neither feet or hands,
Yet I loved him and didn’t care.

Decades later he wears the suit,
I wore when I was two…
He wasn’t like my newer friends,
Who changed clothes when they grew.

He sits atop my dresser,
Placed carefully, just so…
I’ll never forget his friendship,
Some sixty plus years ago.
