Adventure and Discovery

Roscoe discovered the attic today
It’s the dream of all little boys…
The upstairs room, a secret cave,
Filled with forgotten toys.

Exploring the old cardboard boxes,
Many for decades, unviewed…
Roscoe will find things to cherish,
And some items that need to be chewed.

Prescient Weight

Lately I have felt a change…

The wildlife, the weather, the skies...

A machinated onus of man,

Where everything living dies.

The ocean sands are plastics,

Marine life strangled in gill nets…

The skies are toxic gasses

Oil companies hedge their bets.

As the monuments of all mankind,

Dissolve in acid rains,

People welcome with open arms,

Oil tankers and coal trains.

Most say the rising oceans,

Won’t occur for a hundred years;

The weight of my prescient vision

Only justifies my fears.

Faded

Our photographs have bent edges,
Some are torn, crinkled and scratched…
Many still glued in scrapbooks or,
Torn from pages, like our hearts, detached.
Time decays, true love departs;
The pendulum’s power, unmatched.

Babies

Everyone wants a baby today,
They dress up the girls like dolls;
The boys to look like athletes
Posed with guns and soccer balls.

They flash them ‘round like jewelry,
To show off their new net worth’s.
The babies are fashion accessories,
Acquired from careless births.

Crests of Diamonds

The wind delivers diamonds

On the crests of rippling waves.

Old roads, past memories traveled,

Store in the sparkles my photos save.

Time once measured in hours,

Now ebbs on wind jeweled tides.

Constantly changing directions,

Fate and currents never take sides.

The cove today is white crystal,

Tomorrow, shiny black pearls…

The future, relies upon the wind,

Ruling how life’s sails unfurl.
