Reservations

I can’t walk the beach in my front yard,
Or pick fruit from my trees,
It seems I’m not allowed deep breaths,
In the abundant, cool sea breeze.

I walked the dog until he died,
Then I could walk no more…
Now from my window, I observe,
Strangers walking on my shore.

I want to scream, “Get out of here”!
Yet I’m mute with hesitation…
I am old now and invisible;
Life’s cancelled my reservation.

The weeds have covered walkways,
Where surprise guests would appear…
Now I wonder in my silent room,
Does anyone know I’m here?

Humans are Just Like Chickens

We accessorize our bodies,
With colorful diamonds and rings.
Humans are just like chickens;
They peck at the sparkly things.

We overlook a bite of grain,
For a single flake of glitter.
Our “Must have, in vogue” trinkets
Drown us in selfish litter.

Jump !

The taunting voices all screaming, “Jump”!
I was trembling on the rocky ledge…
Gathering courage for my first lake dive,
I trusted fate and stepped off the edge.

Fifty years later I’m haunted,
By the same screaming voices back then…
I lie in bed growing older,
Hearing their screams, “Jump!”, again.
