ER

Last night I drove to the ER,
In pain and so alone…
Every symptom pointed to,
Passing a Kidney stone.

The pain levels, an “Irregular,
Charting from one to ten”,
The next day, a roller coaster,
Was chaotic, but no pain again.

Scared, yet I was laughing,
Escaping to a higher plain…
I learned life can turn on a dime.
Sepsis put me In danger again.

Three days in the hospital,
Became an uncharted trip…
I came home from the netherworld.
Tethered to an antibiotic drip…

One day before planned surgery,
I passed the tiniest stone…
Sixteen thousand dollars,
Paid for my ticket home.
