Growing Up in Stockton ll

The San Joaquin Valley was famous,
For the blinding fog night and day…
Once the season turned Autumn,
The fog was there to stay.

Morning news measured visibility,
And distance by telephone poles.
Drivers slowed to 30 miles per hour,
Even slower when entering black holes.

Cautious drivers lowered their windows,
To listen for oncoming cars…
Non-cautious drivers wrecked everywhere,
Not making it far from the bars.

High schoolers loved headlights in the fog
Stopping on back roads every chance…
Just like smoke in a 60’s light show…
We cranked the radio up and danced.
