Whidbey Island Winter

The water rolls in white-capped swells.
The wind attacks from from southeast hells.
   Broken glass sounds warning bells,
 And money talks…insurance sells.

The island turns to railroad tracks,
          Transporting cold white squalls…
The locomotive’s grinding din
          Screams death in southern drawls.
