Long Shadows

Again, the season of long shadows,
When the sun seems extra slow…
It hovers on the horizon line,
As if hesitant to go.

It projects the usual images,
Now at least ten times as tall.
Nature shows her sense of humor,
In every Northwest fall.

A simple walk with my dog,
To play a game of fetch,
Becomes instead a photo op,
Where we play a game called “stretch”.

The Long Shadow doesn’t last long,
The sun speeds up, setting way too fast;
For the next long months of winter,
Daylight’s remembered as the past.
