Drunk Enough to See the Stars

Sometimes one must journey,

Into the darkness ever so far

Away from another man’s house lights,

Just to witness a falling star.

One night I heard the calling

To observe this heavenly show,

I needed to clear recent knowledge

Of things I wish I didn’t know.

I gathered up a jug of wine,

I hit the high beach trail…

I walked into the sunset,

My ship was ready to sail.

I sat at the top of the hillside,

Against an old worn Cedar tree.

Staring out into the darkness

Under the Cosmos to be free.

I watched a million stars that night

The sky was clear, no clouds or rain.

I realized walking home at dawn

My heart and mind were free again.
